Back to Singing!
The sun shone brightly as more than half the members of Oswestry's Cantiones met on Sunday (30th Sept) afternoon to sing together once again. It was a wonderfully uplifting experience after nearly six months of silence during the pandemic’s worst months. Musical Director, Martin Bussey led the 90 minute rehearsal at a very safe distance and commented that the choir made a pretty decent sound! Of course the choir has been fortunate that Martin has provided weekly rehearsal videos to practice at home for which we were all very grateful but there is nothing better than singing as a group.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed raising their voices on such a sunny day and looks forward to meeting again later this month.
Cantiones is a mixed-voice chamber choir of enthusiastic singers, based in the Shropshire Market Town of Oswestry.
The choir performs three main concerts per year, and under the baton of Musical Director Martin Bussey, work hard to maintain a high standard of performance.
The choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings in Oswestry.
We are regularly accompanied in rehearsals by our former musical director, of 17 years Gerry Howe who is also organist at St Oswalds and the well known Oswestry musician and former MD Chris Symons accompanies us in performance. The choir normally performs one or two substantive concerts a year and a popular carol concert at Christmas. The repertoire includes both sacred and secular music from the 16th to 20th century performed in up to 8 parts
